Natural Dyes 3D Skill Share with Keisha Cameron

The 3D series is a multidimensional workshop series designed for B.I.P.O.C. (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) to deepen skills in specific farming and land stewardship practices in a culturally relevant, supportive, and joyful environment.

Pulling vivid, dimensional color from natural materials can be both fascinating and extremely rewarding. It can also serve as a conduit, connecting us to land, place, and people. For millennia our material landscapes have been layered with colors derived from the environments we inhabit. Spend a day harvesting the rainbow from marigolds, indigo, and cochineal using techniques that you can easily replicate at home. Guided by Keisha we will be introduced to this age-old craft.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Prepare fabrics and textiles for dyeing
  • Create 7 beautifully dyed mini-skeins of semi-variegated yarn and one cotton drawstring bag
  • Become acquainted with the magic of indigo

Language: The instruction will be delivered in English.

Cost: The sliding scale is $15 -100. Please think generously - what could be more important to contribute to than living food, land sovereignty, and skilled farmers spreading love and knowledge?!

The workshop is designed to be a culturally relevant and safe space that centers Black, Indigenous and People of Color (read why here). Donations are accepted from those who are unable to attend the event or those who would like to support BIPOC participant attendance. For this option, choose DONATION when registering.

Registration closes Monday, September 4th at 10pm Eastern Time.

Presenter(s):

Keisha Cameron (she/her)

Originally from upstate NY, Keisha Cameron began farming with her husband and three children on their family farm outside of Atlanta, GA in 2009. A returning generation farmer and cultural seedkeeper, Keisha finds herself leaning into Black agrarian heritage and legacies, incorporating agroecological land and foodways into her evolving relationship with the farm and its ecosystems.

An active community supporter, social justice and human rights advocate, Keisha has given her time as a community volunteer and organizer. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for agrarian arts with friends, neighbors, local organizations and schools.

Today, Keisha continues to work alongside her husband, tending their flock of heritage breed sheep, growing food, fibers, and plant-based dyes while also offering programs, workshops, and fiber circles designed to address the various forms of healing and connection that are needed within and beyond our food system. Keisha’s approach regularly infuses exploration through fun and play into the experiences she designs, empowering others and facilitating opportunities to become agents of change.
