About this event

Soil Health Virtual 3D Skill Share with Angelique Taylor and Leah Penniman

The 3D series is a multidimensional workshop series designed for B.I.P.O.C. (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) to deepen skills in specific farming and land stewardship practices in a culturally relevant, supportive, and joyful environment.

Are you an aspiring soil nerd? Come join us for an interactive workshop on soil fertility. We will learn how to steward our soil sibling while reaping the benefits of an abundant harvest. We will cover regenerative principles and practices to protect and increase soil fertility. These methods include soil testing, minimizing soil disturbance, growing a diversity of plants, protecting soil with living plants, keeping soil covered, and replenishing soil nutrients with organic amendments.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Test the soil in the field and in the lab
  • Increase organic matter through accessible carbon inputs like leaves and woodchips
  • Identify and inoculate beneficial bacteria and fungus and foster their growth
  • Compost, the passive way
  • Select perennial plants for their system
  • Feed plants with foliar spray
  • Select and apply organic soil amendments

Language: The instruction will be delivered in English.

Cost: The sliding scale is $5-100. Please think generously - what could be more important to contribute to than living food, land sovereignty, and skilled farmers spreading love and knowledge?!

The workshop is designed to be a culturally relevant and safe space that centers Black, Indigenous and People of Color (read why here).

Donations are accepted from those who are unable to attend the live event or those who would like to support BIPOC participant attendance. Following the workshop those who donate will receive a recording of the virtual event and any accompanying educational resources. For this option, choose DONATION when registering.

Registration closes Wednesday, April 12 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
